Elk City Public Schools Students and Families,
The Oklahoma State Department of Education recently released the most current results of academic performance for Oklahoma's Public Schools. I am very pleased to inform you that Elk City Schools set itself apart from the prevailing trend of regression observed across Oklahoma. Our students outperformed the statewide average in 14 of the 17 categories used to determine public school performance. In addition to the downward trend reported in Oklahoma, a recent national story reported that math scores across the nation declined this past year. This is not true of our students. ECPS continued to demonstrate significant growth in math. Our students experienced growth at every grade level. Our students outperformed the statewide averages by double digits and by 32 points in the 8th grade. This trend also applies to academic achievement in science. Both our 5th and 8th grade students outperformed the statewide average by double digits. As superintendent, I am so proud of the academic advances we continue to see our kids make. In two years our students and teachers have accomplished 60 point gains from where we started. I am so proud to be a part of this community that values hard work and our kids.
Great to be in āThe Brown & Whiteā
Mike Sparks, Superintendent
